Living In Your Favorite Story
Living In Your Favorite Story
WRITING PROMPT - If you could live inside one of your favorite stories, what would you change about it? What could you do to make it more believable or to be more comfortable in the story?
BONUS CHALLENGE - Rewrite the ending of the story.
My favorite book in the whole world is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I love how the women in her story work together to overcome all of the obstacles they face.
Paying attention to strong women in your life is how you learn to become successful. By watching these women, you learn how to tweak any situation so that it will work. Strong women learn to work together so that each will have a chance to put their talents to good use and take the burden off of the others.
If I could live in this book, I think I would change it to become a more modern version of the story that Louisa wrote.
In my story, I would add the global pandemic and find all sorts of quarantine experiences for the girls to explore.
My rewrite of Little Women would include Mother and Father working in the hospital to help fight the global disease. They would move into an apartment closer to the hospital so that they didn’t take the disease home with them and could keep their daughters safe.
Meg, as the eldest, would need to take over the parenting responsibilities. She homeschools the girls so that they don’t fall behind during the pandemic. She tries new recipes and finds a way to brighten up the house by crafting and decorating. She spends evenings teaching the girls how to re-purpose their worn out clothing into useful items, like T-shirt blankets, redesigned clothing, and even toys for the dogs. But poor Meg is so lonely. Going on dates is out of the question because they have to quarantine. So she resorted to video calls and learned how to date digitally. It saved her sanity and gave her other people to talk to besides her sisters.
Jo took over the provider role. She has been very busy writing scripts and making videos that showcase the stories that she’s been working on for so long. The Internet is blowing up because everyone is home with nothing to do. So Jo started posting her videos on the Internet. Within a matter of months, her channel became monetized. Before long, Jo expanded her video reach to social media and has been featured on podcasts, in magazines, and on a few national network television shows. Her income really help the family at a time when the whole world was struggling to make ends meet.
Then there is sweet Beth. She’s a musician who spent her time teaching young children to play musical instruments. She found a way to conduct music classes by video chat, and taught these children to play so beautifully that they were invited to participate in a virtual concert for the President of the United States. The President was so impressed that she hired Beth to teach her own children how to play. Beth's business has skyrocketed to heights she could only imagine!
Little Amy is in high school now. She’s very interested in boys, fashion, shopping, and video games.
Amy has always been the artist of the family. She would go into the fields and paint for hours and hours.
One day, Amy was playing video games and was appalled at the graphics. They were pixelated and glitchy. The background was so unrealistic that she decided to improve upon it. She sat at her computer and tweaked and reconfigured until she discovered that on the screen before her was an entirely different game.
Amy discovered video games were her passion after all. She spent the rest of quarantine, creating and promoting her games. She had calls from top designers and gaming companies asking to buy her games and offering her scholarships to attend university so that she could expand her knowledge and would give her more opportunities in the gaming field.
In my story, the ladies work together to make life better for their family. They keep the household running smoothly and stay healthy enough so that when a Mother and Father can finally return home, they will not have anything to stress about. They already realize just how lucky they are to have such amazing daughters.
After losing so many friends and family members during the 2020 pandemic, I have decided to leave death out of my story. I would rather focus on the wins and the good things that happen because the world is a scary enough place on its own.
