I felt the most proud on the day I got to hold my first grandbaby for the very first time.

She was in the NICU for almost a week. She was so sick and so was her momma. It was really hard to watch them go through this horrible experience!  I felt helpless as I watched the doctors and hospital officials parade back and forth between their rooms. All I could do was be encouraging and be present.

I can't imagine how my poor daughter and son-in-law felt not being able to hold their new baby.  And it was just as hard to not be able to hold that precious new bundle of joy in my loving grandma arms.

But when I was able to walk into that nursery and hold her in my arms for the very first time, I felt a love that I have never felt before!
I remember looking at my little girl watching her mom hold her precious baby for the first time.  She had tears in her eyes and the biggest smile on her face.  THIS is what we have been waiting months to do!

As I fed her a bottle for the first time, I saw her looking at me with those trusting eyes, and I was so proud to be her grandmother. I was proud of her for fighting so hard and for being so strong. I was proud of my daughter and my son-in-law, for all they did to support her and each other through this very difficult time.

Most parents will tell you that the day they got married or had their own children was the best day of their life.  For me, it was the day my little girl got to introduce me to her little girl.  It was the day I knew they were going to be okay after all.  And, it was the day I truly became a grandma!
