Anticipation

WRITING PROMPT- Describe one thing you are looking forward to.

  • What is it about this experience that makes you so excited?

  • What will you be doing?

  • How much longer do you have to wait for this to happen?

BONUS CHALLENGE - How does waiting for this to happen make you feel? What can you do instead of waiting?

Camping is my happy place. Being one with nature gives me a chance to decompress from the stress I allow to sleep into my life and I can recharge  my energy.

I’ve been looking forward to seeing what the family cabins in Keystone State Park are like. I’m not used to camping with running water and a bathroom in the same building where I sleep. I was so excited to see how different this would be…

The day finally came yesterday. We pulled up to the cabin and noticed it had fancy lights on the porch. These lights were decorated with pine trees and acorns.  The porch had a built-in bench tucked between the cabin and the trees. This porch was so peaceful!

Opening the front door, my mouth nearly hit the floor! It looks like someone’s home. It had a living room with a couch, two chairs, end tables, and lamps. It was made of knotty pine, and was absolutely gorgeous! I was amazed to see a ceiling fan in the living room.

The kitchen area had a full-size refrigerator, a stove with an oven, built in cupboards with countertops, a sink with running water, and a microwave.

It had two bedrooms. The first bedroom had a full-size bed, a dresser, nightstand with lamp, a closet, and a ceiling fan. My husband kept referring to this as the master suite (even though there was no bathroom attached.)

The second bedroom was almost the same as the first, except there was no ceiling fan, and there were two bunkbeds instead of a full-size bed. My husband referred to this as the servants quarters, so he decided to sleep in this room. I thought it was hilarious!

But wait! I’m not done yet! This cabin has a bathroom… It has a toilet, a shower, and a sink with fancy spigots. I was almost afraid to use it because I didn't want to mess it up!

I have been so excited to see what camping in this park is really like. It’s amazing so far!

My life has been rough the last few months. I’ve been living with health issues and struggling through test after test just trying to figure out what’s going on with me medically. It sounds like it may not be good news and I really needed to decompress so I could find enough energy to handle everything that will be coming at me.

Luckily, I don’t have to wait any longer to spend time in the woods! We arrived at Keystone yesterday afternoon. I did my cleaning and unpacking routine. We ate supper and went to visit my cousin at her cabin.

It’s so nice not having to worry about who needs me, what they need me to do, or even just being in the presence of people who drain my energy. This week is all about reconnecting with my husband, finding peace for myself, and getting a break from the stress of the outside world. Here I have no responsibilities and no expectations. In other words, I can be the person I was always meant to be. Here I am not mom, grandma, daughter, or friend. In this place, I am just Michelle; a woman who laughs, has fun, and can relax just by stepping out the door.

Sitting on the porch, listening to the birds wishing me a good morning is my favorite way to start the day!

I am looking forward to exploring the park and getting to know the area. I can’t wait to spend time at the lake and to lock the world away for a few days and pretend that it doesn’t exist.

I am looking forward to the feeling you get three days into your vacation. You know the feeling of complete and utter relaxation that comes on the third day.

The first day of vacation you have so much to unpack, and are so exhausted that you find it hard to sleep.

The second day of vacation brings the excitement of exploring your new environment.

But on the third day, your body realizes that you are stress-free and starts to relax. I don’t know how this feels for you, but I actually get to a point where I can feel my entire body relax. Breathing becomes easier and I can feel my muscles loosen up. This is one of the best feelings you can have in life – complete and utter relaxation.

At this point, the rest of your vacation is just a bonus. You are relaxed and having fun. Stress is nowhere to be found.

The bottom line is that everyone needs to find a place that takes away the stress and brings life back into them. This week, I am allowing Mother Nature to whisper me back to health! Thank you, Mother Nature!
