See, Hear, and Support

Are you happy with the way your relationship makes you feel?  Do you feel seen and heard?  Does your partner support your decisions?  Can they count on you to support them?  Yes, it works both ways!

This week we will be talking about building your relationship with your spouse or partner.  You will figure out where your relationship is now, where you want it to be, and what it will take to get you there.

We talk about our feelings and our disappointments with our relationships and our partners.  We sometimes remember to talk about the nice things they do.  But, when was the last time you made sure that your partner feels seen, heard, and supported?

When a relationship first begins you get the butterflies, you love everything about that person, you can’t wait to see them, and you make sure that they get the attention they want.

A few months later, you feel more secure and start relaxing a little.

When children come, you end up splitting your time between little league, dance class, or whatever other activities your child has.

After a few years, you are so used to running from activity to activity that you forget your relationship is important, too.  Before you know it, the kids moved out and started families of their own.

You are stuck living in a house with this person who has become a stranger.   You spent so many years doing your own thing between children’s activities and now you both have different interests and priorities.

Think  about the beginning of your relationship.  What did you do to stay in that happy little bubble?  What things did you love about your partner?  How did you show them that you loved those things?

Now that your relationship has matured, how do you support your partner?  What is one thing you can do today to not only give your partner the support they deserve, but to create a space for them where they feel seen and heard?  Build that space for your partner, for yourself, and for your relationship.
